Luncarty out to build on opening win

-

Luncarty manager Jon Kelly is hoping his players can build on their positive start to the season.

The Bleachers opened up with a victory against Perthshire rivals Kinnoull and are now wanting to keep the winning feeling.

A trip to Dundee North End, who lost 2-1 to Lochore Welfare on the opening day of the season, awaits this weekend.

Kelly told the Perthshire Advertiser: “I was very pleased to get our first three points on Saturday, especially as it was against tough opposition in Kinnoull.

“I did not think we played particularly well as I know we are capable of more.

“Second half we stepped it up a gear or two and I felt we should of scored more in the game.

“We now have North End away from home on Saturday which is another

Blair boss Mark Brash very difficult fixture.

“But if we are going to try and challenge these are the games we must relish. The lads should go into this game with confidence come match day.”

There was disappointment for Coupar Angus manager Logan McConachie and his players on day one of the season.

And that’s why the Foxhall Park squad are determined to make amends for their 6-1 defeat last week.

Coupar are on home soil on Saturday with East Craigie the visitors and boss McConachie said:“Last week was a real blow if we’re honest.

“The guys have put a lot of hard work in over pre-season and to come away from the league opener with a game that looks like a thrashing was really disappointing.

“Once looking back, Lochee Harp converted six of their nine chances and on another day it could have easily been completely different.

“It’s all ifs, buts and maybes, but the reality is we’ve got to bounce back and we are aiming to put things right on our home turf.”

Elsewhere in the North Division this weekend, Kinnoull face their second Perthshire derby of the season with a trip to Blairgowrie.

Blair boss Mark Brash is hoping his side can continue their positive start to the season, which opened with a 5-0 victory against Brechin Vics.

After that win, Brash said:“It was a good performance on the day against a young, organised team.

“In the first half I thought the players were a little nervous in front of goal and with the final ball.

“But in the second half I thought we controlled the game and the third goal was a flowing move that will already be a contender for goal of the season.”

Scone Thistle will be looking to put their opening day loss behind them when Brechin Vics visit Farquharson Park.

North Division fixtures (all kick-offs 2.30pm): Arbroath Vics v Forfar Albion, Blairgowrie v Kinnoull, Coupar Angus v East Craigie, Dundee North End v Luncarty, Dundee Violet v Lochore Welfare, Newburgh v Lochee Harp, Scone Thistle v Brechin Vics.
