Your chance to see mental health plans

Haveasayatconsultationevents

- Iain Howie

A major overhaul of general adult mental and learning disability services is to be put to the public in the coming weeks.

NHS Tayside is proposing to shake up services provided around the health board area, in particular at Murray Royal Hospital in Perth.

Board chiefs want to centralise general adult psychiatric admission services to Carseview in Dundee, with learning disability provision moved to a single site at the Perth hospital.

The GAP proposal would see this service pulled out of Murray Royal.

The option has already been presented to NHS Tayside committees, Tayside NHS Board, and Perth and Kinross, Dundee and Angus integration joint boards.

But the proposals will go on a consultation tour to Perth, Crieff, Blairgowrie, Pitlochry, Auchterarder and Kinross throughout September.

The consultation events are entirely different to the older people’s care shake-up which is proposed for South Perthshire and Kinrossshire.

The public has the chance to respond to NHS Tayside’s preferred option proposals to cut the three general adult psychiatry sites to one, and the move of LD services to Murray Royal, until Wednesday, October 4.

NHS Tayside representatives are keen to hear the views and feedback of service users, carers, staff and members of the public.

All views will be included in a final report with recommendations for the new service model, which will be presented back to the NHS Tayside and Integration Joint Boards before Perth and Kinross Integration Joint Board makes a final decision.

The shake-up is being proposed amid pressures on providing the services into the future with the current three site model not sustainable.

It follows an extensive review of the services in 2016.

Residents in Perth and Kinross can see and hear of the proposals on Monday, September 11, from 2-6pm, at the Gannochy Suite, Dewars Centre, Glover Street, Perth; Tuesday, September 12 from 11am-2.30pm, at Strathearn Artspace, 6 Comrie Street, Crieff; Wednesday, September 13, 2-6pm, The Steeple, Nethergate, Dundee; Thursday, September 14, 2-5pm, Blairgowrie Town Hall, Brown Street, Blairgowrie; Monday,

The consultation could affect Murray Royal in Perth September 18, 11am-2pm, Pitlochry Town Hall, West Moulin Road, Pitlochry; Wednesday, September 20, 11am-2.30pm, Auchterarder Community Church, High Street, Auchterarder and Thursday, September 21, 11am-2.30pm, Loch Leven Community Campus, The Muirs, Kinross.

Information about the proposed option and an online questionnaire are available on the consultation website www. taysidementalhealthredesign.scot. nhs.uk.
