NHS chief to discuss shake-ups

- Lynn Duke

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSPs Liz Smith, Murdo Fraser and Alexander Stewart are set to host a public meeting on the future of NHS Tayside.

The meeting will take place on October 3 at 7pm at the Royal George Hotel in Perth and the three politicians will be joined by health board chairman, John Connell.

It will give Mr Connell a chance to outline the proposed programme for rationalisation of healthcare services across NHS Tayside.

Members of the public will also have the opportunity to put across their thoughts on healthcare services to the chairman directly.

Commenting on the meeting, Ms Liz Smith MSP

Smith said: “I would like to thank John for agreeing to take part in this public meeting in October. I am sure most people would agree that John has been a breath of fresh air since taking over at NHS Tayside.

“It is important for the health service to engage directly with the public and politicians in order to ensure total transparency.

“Healthcare services across the UK are facing a number of new and unique pressures and it’s critical that the NHS is able to meet these challenges head on.”

Urging members of the public to attend the meeting, she added: “The centralisation of healthcare services is clearly concerning for people living in remote and rural areas and I hope that this meeting gives ordinary patients the chance to put their points across to the man at the top.”
