Horti event’s blooming great day
An east Perthshire horticultural contest has been hailed as a success.
The garden competition in Coupar Angus was organised jointly by the town’s community council and Forward Coupar Angus.
Judges Pauline Macaskill and Anne Barrie were “very impressed” with the exceptional standard of planting, wonderfully colourful displays and original ideas.
Coupar Angus and Bendochy Community Council will present the awards at its meeting in the Town Hall Chambers at 7pm on Monday, September 11.
On the same day as the judging – Saturday, July 15 – 15 gardens in Coupar Angus were open to the public.
Despite the showers, residents, as well as visitors, took the opportunity to chat to garden enthusiasts, get ideas and take home cuttings. Newcomers to the town are keen to hear about more such events.
Added attractions at some of the open gardens were a welcome cup of tea and a vintage fayre displaying work by Anna Browne, who has just returned to Sweden.
The prize for school-age child went to Ramsay Scott.
Mr Christie at Ellerslie Gardens won first prize for window boxes, second in the Scottish Flower Garden category and third prize for tubs/pots.
Mr Dargie won second prize for his hanging baskets and Mr Lamond
The Coupar Angus competition defied the conditions for a great day won first prize for his Scottish flower garden, second prize for vegetables and fourth prize for hanging/wall baskets.
The Caddam Road Community Garden won first prize in the vegetable section and Crichton Lang Court residents won first prize for hanging baskets.
Mrs L Cameron won the unusual garden category once again.
