£1m road safety work takes shape

- Iain Howie

Road safety on a busy Perth thoroughfare has been boosted by a new crossing point.

People traversing the A85 Dundee Road near to Branklyn Garden often faced difficulty with motorists heading to and from the M90.

But a new puffin crossing point is expected to make it easier for people in the Bellwood area of the city, with the equipment specifically designed to match the demands on the route.

And for drivers on the A9 enhanced warnings for the dual carriageway crossover at Blackford were also being installed to alert motorists to the potentially dangerous junction.

The measures will take their place among a £1m package of improvements agreed in June this

Pictured left to right at the Dundee Road puffin crossing are council worker Michael Findlay, Councillor Callum Purves, who has deputy responsibility for infrastructure, Council Leader Ian Campbell and Perth councillors Chris Ahern and Andrew Parrott year. Council leader Ian Campbell said: “We set aside additional funding for the implementation of a number of road safety measures as a priority and I am extremely pleased with the speed at which the works are being completed.”

Resurfacing work has been taking place overnight at the Blackford crossing point this week by roads group Bear Scotland.
