RSPB Loch Leven will be hosting their next osprey walk on Sunday, August 27, from 10am to noon. Admission costs £8 for adults/£6 for members; £4 for children/£2 for members, and booking is essential. Walk Dr David Munro will be leading a walk around Kirkgate Park on Sunday, August 27, and those wishing to take part should meet at the Watchtower at 2pm. 1st Orwell Brownies Meetings resume after the summer break in the Guide Hall, Milnathort on Monday, August 28, from 6.45pm to 8pm, with spaces still available. Kinross and Ochil Short Walks Group’s next walk to St Andrews’ Botanic Gardens, Lade Braes and the town will take place on Tuesday, August 29. Trekkers should meet at Kinross Park and Ride to catch the number 23 bus at 10.08am, arriving in St Andrews at 11.15am with a stop for coffee, before walking to the botanic gardens. Entrance costs £4.50 for concession­s, and everyone should bring a packed lunch. They will then walk along Lade Braes and the surroundin­g area before returning to catch the 4.45pm bus from St Andrews bus station, arriving in Kinross at 5.52pm. Luncarty Church The service this Sunday will be held in Luncarty Church Centre at 10am, and will be conducted by the minister. All welcome. Fete The annual church fete will take place in and around Stanley village hall on Saturday, September 2, at 2pm. There will be a wide selection of stalls available and a range of activities to suit all ages. Come along and enjoy a fun day out. Bowling Club Lottery numbers this week were 3, 17, 19 and 20. There was no winner and next week’s prize money will be £2000.

Methven

Flower and crafts show Almond Valley Horticultu­ral Society’s annual flower and crafts show will be held at Pitcairngr­een village hall on Saturday, August 26. Articles for the competitio­n should be submitted between 6pm and 10pm on the Friday, or between 7.30am and 8.45am on the Saturday. Entries of fruit, vegetables, flowers, home produce and crafts would be welcomed. Judging commences at 9am on the Saturday and prizewinne­rs will be announced at 1pm, after which the exhibition will be open to the public. Refreshmen­ts and home baking will be served in the marquee. Stalls on the green will include produce, bric-a-brac, and a tombola. Gardens around the village will be open. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy a great day out. Bowling Club Lottery numbers this week were 3, 10, 12, and 17. There was no winner and prize money next week will be £1380.

Newburgh

Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary The cat flu outbreak at the Whinnybank sanctuary is beginning to ease. The adult cats are recovering well but the feral kittens are still affected. Sue would like to thank Paul and Sarah, of Sunny Harbour, who have experience­d this nasty virus and have provided her with the best food to fight it. The eight kittens and two adult cats have also demolished half of the cooked chicken. One of the sanctuary’s own cats was sadly killed on the road this week by a reckless driver. This is the

third cat to have been lost this year. Many of the local children come to the sanctuary in the afternoons on their bikes and scooters to see the cats, hens and ducks. Sue is concerned about the youngsters’ safety when the driver concerned makes his return journey about 4.30pm to 5pm. The road is used as a cycle route and the police have asked residents to provide them with the driver’s registrati­on. Bonus ball The winner of last week’s TICC bonus ball was Joyce Russell on number 17. Pigeon Club Newburgh and District Racing Pigeon Club held its first young bird race from Alnwick, Northumber­land, a flying a distance of 80 miles. The race was sponsored by Breedon Aggregates Ltd of Monifieth, and the club winners were Wallace and Ferguson, R Williams and G Craig.

Street sports Pitlochry Baptist Church and St Johnstone Football Club have arranged an evening of street sports at Pitlochry High School on Wednesday, August 23, from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. All are welcome to attend this event. Pitlochry Church of Scotland Christian programmes on Heartland FM 97.5 are available on Sundays, from 8am until 9am. The Heart and Soul show contains Christian music, news and local interviews. Tuesdays at 7pm and Thursdays at 8pm, features Sounds Inspiratio­nal - a Christian music programme. Football The Vale of Atholl FC league cup match on Saturday, August 12, was sponsored by R W Bell Building Services. The score was Vale 3 Coupar Angus 6, and Vale’s scorers were Matt Robertson with one and Glenn Robinson who scored two goals. The match on Tuesday, August 15, resulted in a score of Vale 1 Ballinluig 0, with Vale’s wining scorer being Craig Swan. Tomorrow Vale will be home to Coupar Angus in a league game with a 2pm start. Scottish Wildlife Trust Pitlochry and Highland Perthshire group have arranged a guided walk around Duncoilich next Saturday, August 26, at 10.30am. Bridge Results for Thursday, August 10 were as follows: north/south was won by J Mitchell/J Rough on 59 per cent, with A Hunter/G Reid second on 52 per cent, and N Mack/J Woodman third on 49 per cent. East/west was won by B and G McMillan on 67 per cent, with J Christie/B Pow second on 58.5 per cent, and C Ritchie/I Forrester third on 51 per cent. Scone and St Martins Parish Church The service on Sunday at 9.30am will be conducted by Rev Alan Livingston­e at Scone Old Church. Teas and coffees will be served after the service. Scone Remembers group will be taking over the Blairgowri­e charity shop on Reform Street until this Friday, August 18. Opening times will be Saturday 9.30am to 5pm, Sunday 12 noon to 4pm, Monday to Wednesday, 9.30am to 4.30pm, Thursday 9.30am to 5pm, and Friday 9am to 12 noon. A variety of goods will be on sale including good quality clothing, jewellery, bric-a-brac and surprise items. There will also be a tombola on the Saturday to help raise more funds for the memorial walks and gardens. These will commemorat­e the lives of the 72 men from Scone who died during World War One. All are welcome to come along and see what is on offer.

St Madoes

St Madoes and Kinfauns Church The last and first morning worship will be held in the church on Sunday at 10.30am and then in the Madoch Centre. From next Monday to Friday there will be tours of the Madoch Centre betweeen 2pm and 3pm, and from 7pm to 8pm. No booking is required. Wednesdays Bible study group meets in the church at 11am. All are welcome. The Kirk Session will meet in the Madoch Centre that evening at 7.30pm (to be confirmed).
