Macca is targeting goal rush

-

Steven MacLean was delighted to get off the mark last week now he is targeting more success in front of goal.

The Perth striker netted in the win against Motherwell to get his personal tally rolling in the Scottish Premiership this season.

MacLean (34) insists he is feeling fresh and said:“It was good for me to get off the mark in the first home league game. But it was more important to get the three points.

“I want to keep scoring the goals and net as many as I can. I still feel good and hopefully I can get a few more.

“It’s good to have six points from six. I think everyone knows we won’t be at the top come the end of the season.

“Beating teams who are going to be around us is going to be vitally important.

“We’ve always struggled against teams around us and performed better against the top teams.”

Saints welcome Partick Thistle to Perth tomorrow afternoon and MacLean wants the positive momentum at the club to continue.

He said:“The cup result against them was disappointing but I don’t think it’s a case of revenge.

“We’ll be looking to do well in the game and a win would mean we could already put some daylight between us and certain teams.

“Confidence is high after last Saturday– so hopefully we can take that into the Partick game.

“We need to keep picking up points. Partick are a good side – they proved that in the cup game. This time we need to be more clinical in front of goal. And the first goal is always important in these games.

“It’s not a certainty but whoever grabs the first goal has a great chance of going onto win the game.”
