Snapper Cat shifts focus

- Melanie Bonn

Cat Burton An ex-video game developer has made the shift to fine art photography.

Since moving to Scone this year Cat Burton (32) has been very active in Perth.

She founded the Perth Photo Club in March and kept it free to make it inclusive for everyone.

The club’s next meeting is tonight at 7pm in The Sandeman pub in Kinnoull Street.

Later this week Cat will give a presentation to Growbiz members in Dunkeld, where she will explain how small start-up businesses can get ahead by photographing their products.

Her talk on DIY photography for online is at The Chanonry, Dunkeld Cathedral, on Thursday from 6.30pm.

Cat wants to ensure the Fair City takes part in a world photo event where people take and post pictures of their area on the same day.

Perth Photo Walk is on October 7

‘Guardian Of The Forest’by Cat Burton and Cat plans to lead a group of about 50 people around some of the city’s most atmospheric spots. Details are at http://worldwidephotowalk.com/ walk/perth-uk.

Cat studied computer science at university and went on to develop video games.

She met her partner Mark in the video game industry and they made the move to Scone. “It ticked our two essential criteria: best possible broadband speeds and living within an hour to an airport as Mark’s work is global,” she explained. She decided to leave gaming to him and make photography her main activity. Cat’s work is inspired by folklore and fantasy literature. A fan of Edgar Allan Poe’s stories and Tim Burton movies, she loves the macabre and the gothic. She counts Kinnoull Hill tower as her top spot for mysterious imagery and the MacDuff tower and obelisk in Scone as favourite subjects. Her work is appearing in a variety of autumn exhibitions. She has a solo fine art photography exhibition in Edinburgh and her pictures are on show at the Royal Scottish Academy open exhibition of art. Durng Perthshire Open Studios next month Cat’s work will appear at The Bield, Blackruthven, and at Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
