Traditional building showcase
The people of Perth will be able to turn back the clock next month with two days of traditional building skills in the city centre.
Fife and Tayside Traditional Buildings Forum is to hold a two-day event on Monday, September 18 and Tuesday, September 19 at King Edward Street, which will include live demonstrations of stonemasonry, specialist joinery, roof slating, and painting and decorating, as well as raising awareness of Scotland’s traditional buildings and the specialist skills needed to keep them in good repair from 10am until 4pm each day.
The event is also inviting 48 pupils from Crieff, Perth and Pitlochry high schools, Perth Academy, Perth Grammar and St John’s Academy to the building skills event to help give them a taste as they look towards career choices.
The event will also give members of the public the opportunity to see traditional building skills in action and ask experts about building conservation.
Sara Carruthers, Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust’s historic buildings development officer, said:“The aim of the event is to raise awareness about the value of traditional building skills, the need to address the condition of Scotland’s traditional buildings and the opportunities available locally for owners to get help to do this.”
The events will also see information and materials tents from Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust, Historic Environment Scotland, Perth and Kinross Council’s planning department and representatives of construction group Balfour Beatty.
