Prize pot boosted for Autumn Raceday

- Ross Gardiner

The prize pot at the races on Monday is £65k Perth Racecourse’s Autumn Raceday is turning heads after a 75% increase in prize money.

The cash pot on Monday next week is £65,000 and has attracted top trainers from across the UK and Ireland to enter some high calibre horses.

The meeting, which has previously run over two days, was reduced to a single day this year via the on-going fixture process and the racecourse executive decided to ensure the fixture offered unmissable prize-money.

Brand new for this year is the £25,000 Sodexo Prestige Venues and Events Killicrankie Handicap Chase.

Pupils from Bell Baxter Secondary School in Cupar will also be in attendance on race day, with the group of 20 pupils visiting as part of the Racing to School programme, which gives young people access to racecourses and trainers’yards to inspire them into the racing industry as a hobby and future career.

Hazel Peplinski, chief executive at Perth Racecourse, said:“After a very hectic summer programme it is hard to believe we just have the three days in September yet to stage. The entries are really promising for Monday. It’s this time of year when the larger National Hunt yards are beginning to roll and it is all becoming very exciting for National Hunt fans, lots of familiar horses shall make their eagerlyawaited reappearances in the coming weeks.”

Tickets are priced from £18 for the Grandstand and £10 for students and OAPS. Gates open at noon, and the first race is scheduled for 2.05pm.
