Highlanders are top attraction

- Staff Reporter

The open day takes place on Saturday More than 50 of Scotland’s finest pedigree Highland Cattle will be gathered north of Blairgowrie tomorrow in a stunning showcase of their breed.

Highland Cattle will be looking their very best at Balnabroich Farm near Kirkmichael.

As well as the hairy beasts, tractor and trailer tours will be offered and guided tours of the gardens and the Pinetum take place all day.

The charity open day, which is the first of its kind to be held at Balnabroich Farm, has been organised by owners Sir Michael and Lady Sally Nairn.

It will raise money for Scottish palliative care charity Palliation and The Caring Hospital (PATCH), of which Sir Michael is chair.

It was set up in 2014, and is the first charity specifically to support 24/7 specialist palliative care for patients in Scottish hospitals.

Sir Michael commented:“My wife Sally and I are dedicated to helping develop the work of PATCH.

“Some 55 per cent of people are destined to die in hospital yet few hospitals have designated staff who are well trained and experienced in palliative care.

“To patients who are suffering in pain, as they approach the end of their lives, and to their families, specialist palliative care can make all the difference, whether in hospital or making it possible for people to die peacefully in their own homes.

“We are hoping as many people as possible can join us.”

Gates open at 9am and the Highland Cattle Show will run from 9.30am culminating in the championship award at 12pm.

Admission is £5 for an adult, with children under 18 free.
