Councillor slams pothole promises

-

A Perth councillor has slammed the local authority administration for what he sees as a failure to deal with the region’s pothole problem.

The issue raised hackles at Wednesday’s meeting of PKC’s environment, enterprise and infrastructure committee.

Since then, Perth North SNP councillor Dave Doogan said:“The condition of our roads is far too important an issue to be reduced to the status of political football in this way and I am certain people across Perth and Kinross just want the Tories to stop talking now and get on with the job.

“It is just over two months since the Tory leader of the council, Ian Campbell, appeared squatting in front of a pothole on Shore Road in Perth and declared that he and the Tories would ‘get our roads up to scratch’.

“Yet this very pothole remains unrepaired, a startling lack of action which mirrors the apparent difficulty this Tory administration has in getting anything done.”

Cllr Doogan continued:“As I cautioned Cllr Campbell recently, it’s great to have grand populist ideas which grab headlines and create an appearance of dynamism, but you need a plan, not least a plan to pay for it.

“I predict this pothole on Shore Road will get fixed pretty quickly now - but that doesn’t change the fact that when, as leader of the council, Ian Campbell spoke it appears nobody in the council was listening.”

A recently-agreed council policy will see potholes on‘category one’roads repaired within four hours, and ‘category two’roads repaired within five days. Cllr Doogan on the Shore Road
