Drug crash man not in court but in hospital

- Court Reporter

A Perthshire man who crashed his father’s car on a country road while he was on drugs could not attend court for sentencing this week as he is now in hospital.

Perth Sheriff Court previously heard Robin John Filshie (39) of Pleasance Road, Coupar Angus, fled the scene of the crash, which is believed to have occurred sometime on February 10 this year just off the A94 Perth to Coupar Angus road.

The court previously heard police found Filshie’s dad’s car abandoned on the road just after midnight then found him wandering on an unclassified road an hour later.

It was also said that Filshie admitted there and then that he had taken morphine the previous day. It was further said blood tests had subsequently shown there had been a concoction of drugs in his system at the time of the crash.

Filshie, who admitted driving while being unfit to do so through drink or drugs and has been disqualified from driving, was due to appear in court again on Wednesday for sentencing.

But his solicitor informed the court he was unable to attend as he is now undergoing treatment at Murray Royal Hospital. Another official added that it was unknown when Filshie would be ready to be discharged.

Sheriff William Wood agreed to delay sentencing Filshie until October 11 and ordained him to appear then. He also requested a criminal justice social work report be prepared on Filshie for that date.
