Thanks for making last event so special

- Clare Damodaran

Chair of the Blairgowrie and Rattray Highland Games, Bob Ellis, announced his retirement from the committee at this year’s event.

The former councillor has supported the games in various capacities for over two decades, most recently as chair.

He had planned to stand down from the committee after last year’s games but was persuaded to stay on for another year.

He said:“I have been involved with the games for quite a number of years now and it is time I handed over the reins to someone else.

“I have very much enjoyed my tenure as chair of the games.

“It is a real family event and a great spectacle.

“It is always great to see everyone having such a good time at the games and enjoying the abundance of things to do and see throughout the day.”

And he said thanked everyone who attended the games on Sunday for making his last event “one of the best”.

He added:“I would like personally to thank all of the committee members and all of the helpers on the day and in the run up to the event, including SCYD, the Rotary Club, the Air Cadets, Staffie Smiles Rescue, the Ardblair Stones, all the stall holders, Sam for the sound system, and the judges for their support of the games.

“Thanks also to Sabrina and Marcel Haufmann for their huge stick figures which adorned the site this year.

“And a big thanks must go to all the participants and spectators who came to the games and made it such a remarkable day.

“I have never seen so many cars and so many people here, it has been a terrific day.

“It’s fair to say it has been one of the best events we have had and a tremendously successful day that it has been an immense pleasure to work.”
