Abbey Church The service on Sunday was conducted by Rev Andrew Graham. The hymns were Ascribe Greatness to Our God the Rock, I Know Not Why God’s Wondrous Grace, Thou Art Worthy and I Will Sing the Wondrous Story. The readings were taken from Matthew ch 28, v 16-20 and Acts ch 18, v 18-28 and were read by Morgan Rolfe and Ellie Turnbull from the children’s ministry group Crossover. Musical offerings were provided by organist Austin Wilkie and included JS Bach’s Minuet in G Major, Andante Poco Tranquillo by Alfred Hollins, and March from Scipio by GF Handel. In his sermon Rev Graham spoke about sharing the Gospel to energise and seek the Lord, asking how willing people were to tell God’s story far and wide. Rev Graham spoke of Apollus, whose understanding of the Gospel was incomplete. But having spent some time with Aquila and Priscilla, who were friends of Paul, he went on to have a fuller understanding and subsequently began a preaching ministry and was used by God to spread the Gospel. Christians, once they accept the word of God, should spread the word in any way they can. Accepting that they will never know everything, so seek to learn, and that they should never be fearful of being unable to answer a question as the Holy Spirit will take them to new and wonderful places every day. The most effective witness people can make is to share their own testimony. God uses people in their lives at different times and for different reasons, although they might not necessarily see that at the time but having God with them enables them to cope with anything. Prayer group has resumed on Wednesdays, at 2pm in the Abbey and all are welcome. Choir rehearsals have resumed on Wednesdays, from 6pm to 7pm in the Abbey. Anyone interested in joining the choir, should speak to Austin Wilkie or come along to rehearsals.
