Golden year for Kinross Art Club
Crowds gathered for the opening night of the Kinross and District Art Club 50th anniversary exhibition. Pic: Stewart Niven Kinross and District Art Club is celebrating 50 years of promoting the visual arts and developing local talent.
Founded as a small group in 1967, the club now has around 60 members who meet twice weekly to paint, exchange ideas and to explore new materials and techniques.
The rural landscape of Kinross-shire is a constant source of inspiration, but members also visit and participate in exhibitions outwith the area and benefit from demonstrations from professional artists.
There will be around 200 paintings on display and for sale - tagged as original art at affordable prices - at this year’s exhibition in the Parish Church on Station Road.
Opened for business on Wednesday by Kinross High School head teacher Mrs Sarah Brown, the exhibition continues on Friday (today) from 1-8pm and also on Saturday from 10am till 4pm. Crafts and produce will also be on sale with refreshments available.
The exhibition is part of a larger art event, Perthshire Open Studios, in which local artists open their studios and workshops to the public for nine days, running until September 10.
In the Kinross area, in addition to the Art Club Exhibition, a further eight artists are participating. More information can be found at www.perthshireopenstudios.com
