A local MSP has praised NHS Tayside in making the top three fastest health boards in dealing with A&E patients.

New figures show that 97.5% of patients in NHS Tayside’s emergency departments were seen, admitted or discharged within four hours – beating the Scottish Government’s 95% target, and the national average of 95.7%.

The statistics revealed the local health board to be one of the most effective in seeing, treating or discharging patients, last month, with only NHS Western Isles and NHS Shetland recording better results in Scotland.

Perthshire North SNP MSP John Swinney, who welcomed these figures, said: “It is extremely encouraging that Emergency Departments in NHS Tayside are frequently meeting the four hour waiting times target, with the latest figures showing that 97.5% of patients are being seen within four hours.

“I am proud of the effort that our local NHS staff put into their work every single day of the year. We must, and will always, value the vital work done by our NHS staff – and we should always celebrate their success and continue to support their efforts.”
