A public meeting is to be held today to discuss the future of two primary schools in southwest Perthshire.
Braco Village Hall is set to host a public meeting from 3-8pm on the future of Braco Primary School and the mothballed Greenloaning Primary School.
The meeting will look at six different options for the two schools, some of which consider re-opening Greenloaning.
Two options would see both schools open, with one option looking at reopening Greenloaning while also improving the suitability of Braco, and another reopening Greenloaning and splitting the stages of education between the two schools.
A further option would see Greenloaning reopened and extended meaning Braco school would close, with all pupils sent to Greenloaning.
Other potential plans for the two schools include continuing to mothball Greenloaning or consider closing it for good.
A sixth proposal would be to review the catchment areas for the two schools to see if the school roll at Greenloaning could be raised to sustainable levels.
All options would see the suitability of Braco Primary School improved.
Currently, the capacity at Braco school is 68, with last year’s school roll sitting at 48 pupils. The capacity at Greenloaning is 49.
This consultation is part of a wider review of school estates across Perth and Kinross, with a further meeting on the future of Balhousie and North Muirton primary schools in Perth scheduled at North Muirton Primary School on Wednesday.
Other school estates under review in this first phase of consultations include Abernyte, Blairingone, Logiealmond, Methven, the mothballed Forteviot school and St Ninian’s Episcopal School in Perth.
During today’s community drop-in meeting at Braco Village Hall, feedback will be gathered from parents and the wider community through questionnaires on the six proposed options for the schools.
