Kids call for Children in Need project

Schools set to take part

- Rachel Clark

Children across Perth and Kinross are being encouraged to get their school involved in this year’s BBC Children in Need.

This year’s ‘Big Spotacular’ campaign is looking to raise a record-breaking total for disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, and are asking the region’s schools to once again get involved in the run up to the Children in Need appeal night on Friday, November 17. This comes as Balbeggie Primary School managed to raise £10,923 for the cause last year.

This year, nurseries and pre-schools are being encouraged to put on a Pudsey Picnic Party, by adding spots to their bakes and dressing-up in the runup to the appeal week.

Primary Schools are also being asked to get creative with their spots by singing and baking.

Secondary schools across Perth and Kinross are being asked to plan their own fundraising events and think about getting involved in sponsored challenges. Schools can also register for a Big Spotacular fundraising kit for more inspiration.

Tanya Rabin, BBC Children in Need partnership lead at Lloyds Banking Group, said: “We are thrilled at how much local schools in Perth have raised for BBC Children in Need through the big Lloyds Bank Spotacular and we hope their success so far will encourage other local schools to join in with The Big Spotacular. The partnership has played an important part of the group’s Helping Britain Prosper Plan, helping tackle disadvantage and improving young people’s lives for the better.”

Schools who register for a kit before Friday, September 15 will receive it for free, but will also be in with a chance of winning an exclusive prize, including the ultimate Pudsey picnic hamper, a school visit from Pudsey Bear himself, and the chance to

broadcast their fundraising news direct from their classrooms with a special media workshop.

Jonathan Rigby, commercial director of BBC Children in Need, added: “This year we’re urging all the nurseries and schools in Perth and across the rest of the UK to join The Big Spotacular and go spotty to help raise money for BBC Children in Need.

“The money raised really will make a huge difference to children and young people up and down the UK who are facing disadvantage. So whether it’s hosting a spotty picnic or taking part in a sponsored footy match, get your hands on a fundraising pack and get involved!”
