Baked Perthshire will be icing on the cake

-

Bakers of all abilities are being sought to create a giant edible map of Perth and Kinross as part of the annual Winter Festival.

As part of Cake Fest, groups or individuals are being asked to pick their favourite building or place within the region and recreate it in cake form.

Entries will be compiled on a giant edible map which will be created by head baker Simon Preston.

The fully edible landscape will be modelled under cover and bakers will arrive throughout the day to add their creation to the masterpiece.

Once the spectacular map is complete and people have been able to admire it, the cake buildings will be cut and served to Perth Winter Festival revellers at the city’s concert hall on Sunday, November 19.

Bakers taking part can choose a landmark to be temporarily immortalised in cake from Perth Museum and Art Gallery, Fergusson Gallery, St Matthew’s Church, St Paul’s Church, Smeaton’s Bridge, Balhousie Castle, Scone Palace, Perth Concert Hall, Perth Theatre, Elcho Castle, Perth Racecourse, Huntingtower Castle, McDiarmid Park, North and South Inch, Kinnoull Hill and Tower, Ossian’s Hall, Pitlochry Dam, Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Blair Castle, The Crannog Centre, and much more.

Provost Dennis Melloy said: “This will be a wonderful addition to our

Scones for Scone Palace Winter Festival this year, and I really hope that people get behind this and use their imagination to create some fantastic pieces to feature on the map.

“This is an opportunity for anyone who enjoys baking to get together and have some fun to create something unique.

Simon said: “Cake Fest is all about getting friends, families and colleagues together to bake and to celebrate their home and community, everyone is welcome to take part and I’ll advise and guide you throughout the adventure.

“I’m keen to get a great mix of bakers from across the region and beyond involved in this challenge, we’re not looking for perfectly scaled masterpieces but we are looking for, up-for-it attitudes and a passion for Perth and Kinross’ buildings and landscape.
