Horticultural stars scoop prizes at Beautiful Scotland awards

Politicians have united to heap praise on green-fingered residents who featured amongst the prize-winners at the Beautiful Scotland awards.

The Fair City won the Large Town trophy, meaning Beautiful Perth came home with a trophy and a gold medal.

Comrie in Colour and Bridge of Earn-based Brig in Bloom won a gold medal in their section, with Kinnesswood in Bloom and Muthill in Bloom presented with silver gilt medals – as did the group covering Dunkeld and Birnam.

In addition, the Crichton Lang Court Residents’ Group in Coupar Angus won silver in the residential community section.

Kinross-shire SNP MSP Roseanna Cunningham said: “All the various bloom committees do a fantastic job and put in a huge amount of effort to enhance the visual environment of their local communities.

“A massive well done to everyone involved and please keep up the good work. “You have done us all proud.” Mid Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser mentioned the awards in a parliamentary motion.

He said: “These awards celebrate the hard work of thousands of volunteers who give up their spare time and it was only right to celebrate their work in the Scottish Parliament.

“Making sure your community remains well presented is good for visitors but also for the community itself and I am impressed with the number of award winners across the region.

“Here’s hoping this trend can continue.”
