Seeing the funny side in aid of club

-

St Johnstone Seniors FC are playing it for laughs with a comedy night on Friday, September 29.

The event, headlined by slick comic Liam Withnail – rated“fantastic”in Edinburgh Fringe reviews – is being held at the St Johnstone Supporters’Club in Barossa Street.

The compere is“comedian without a rulebook”Gus Lymburn, with Edinburgh Revue comedy championship winner Will Naameh and Perthshire farmer and Scottish Comedian of the Year finalist Jim Smith also on the bill.

The event is a fundraiser for a team which was formed by players who took part in the 2012 Football Fans In Training (FFIT) course and others who fit the ethos from five-a-side games.

Team manager Gav Stewart explained:“In this day and age it is very difficult to get sponsors to support teams like us so we decided to self-fund the team by staging own events.

“We held a very successful quiz night earlier this year which we hope will become an annual event.

“We have decided to follow this up with a comedy night which not only raises money for the team but also helps the Saints Club, who kindly lay on food for our home games.

“The team now plays home matches at Methven, usually on Sunday afternoons and come up against fellow FFIT supporters from across Scotland as we seek to foster relationships and friendships with fellow teams.”

St Johnstone legend Mark Treanor will be attending and a grand prize draw will be staged.
