Swifts will be ready for impressive Rose

Lessons were learned from last season, says Ross

Lessons were learned from last season’s meetings with Bonnyrigg Rose.

That was the statement delivered by Jeanfield Swifts manager Ross Gunnion this week, whose side welcome the high-flying Midlothian men on Saturday.

The Perth squad were defeated twice in the league by Rose last term but hopes are high that a shock can be pulled off at the Riverside.

“Bonnyrigg will undoubtedly be the toughest test we have faced so far this season,” Gunnion said. “In my opinion, they were the best side we faced last year and I think it was only their hectic fixture schedule that prevented them winning the league.

“They’ve strengthened again this year and despite losing their manager to Berwick Rangers, they’ve kept continuity by appointing his assistant.

“We learned a lot from them last year and it will be important that when we do have the ball, we use it well.

“When we don’t have it, we must stay compact and ensure we don’t allow ourselves to be overpowered.”

Gunnion insists concentration will be vital this weekend and added: “We’ll prepare as we always do but will stress the importance of concentration and composure in games like this.

“It will be a test for the players, particularly the newer recruits but I have every confidence in their ability to take something from the game.”

Perthshire derby games are coming thick and fast in the North Division this season - and another is taking place this weekend.

Luncarty, who are joint top of the table, travel to play a Coupar Angus side who have found form in recent weeks.

Bleachers boss Jon Kelly is aware of that form and said: “Coupar Angus and their last two results show that they are on the up.

“A good away win against Rosyth in the cup and then thumping Newburgh 5-1 last weekend.

“We are well aware of this. But what we must do is concentrate on our own game and keep doing what we have been doing.

“I believe the team has not hit top form yet so we are working to try and get there. Saturday brings another opportunity to do this.

“We are starting to put a run together just now and momentum is very important.

“We will certainly be looking to keep it going this weekend.”

Kinnoull, after picking up their first league win last week, are on home duty on Saturday and welcome East Craigie to Tulloch Park.
