Coffee date kicks off shoe box appeal

This year’s Christmas shoe box appeal is to be launched at the end of this month with a celebrator­y coffee morning.

The Blythswood Shoe Box appeal will be officially started in Perth and Kinross by Provost Dennis Melloy on Saturday, September 30 in the North Church Halls on Perth’s Mill Street from 10am until 11.45am.

The coffee morning promises home baking and a cake and candy stall, as well as tea and coffee and a stall selling homemade jam.

At the church, members of the public will also be able to buy pre-wrapped shoe boxes for a donation to fill themselves.

A spokespers­on for Blythswood in Perth said:“The Perth Support Group would like to thank everybody that donated to the 2016 appeal with 4,161 gift-filled shoe boxes being sent Oakbank Primary School donated lots of shoeboxes last year from Perth to give hope to needy people in Romania last Christmas.

“If you would like to support the Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal and are unable to attend the coffee morning, wrapped shoe boxes and leaflets will be available from October 2, 10am until noon from the North Church office, or from 2pm until 4pm from the North Church open door cafe, or at Sunday morning services.”

The church have asked for shoe boxes to be handed in to them from Sunday, October 22, with the last collection being picked up from the city centre church on Friday, November 10. Volunteers will also be needed for a custom check of the shoe boxes on Saturday, November 11.

Tickets to the coffee morning appeal launch are £2 for adults, and £1 for children.
