Murals hit by crude graffiti in Tulloch

Mindless vandalism scrawled across children’s art

- Paul Cargill

A Perth councillor has condemned the actions of mindless vandals who have ruined weeks of hard work within minutes with just a single can of spray paint.

Perth city centre councillor Peter Barrett yesterday blasted those responsible for wrecking recently painted murals in the Tulloch underpass by spraying obscene words and tags all over them.

The underpass, which leads from Tulloch Primary School to Nimmo Avenue, was only refurbished a month ago as part of a project involving the council, Perth College UHI and pupils from the school.

The murals were designed by pupils in the school’s primary six class then developed by college students before the final pieces painted on the underpass.

Councillor Barrett, who is the convener of PKC’s housing and communities committee, said: “This is a real and bitter disappointment.

Cllr Peter Barrett The vandalism is completely unacceptable.

“The work of the pupils and students and everyone involved in the project was tremendous and deserved praise and the fullest appreciation but has been defaced by some ignorant and obscene louts.

“I would urge anyone with knowledge of the perpetrators to pass the information to the police directly or via Crimestoppers.”

Police Scotland can be contacted by calling 101 or information can be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
