Junction upgrade callwill goto ministers
A motion has been agreed unanimously by councillors to ask the Scottish Government to upgrade Junction 7 of the M90 at Kinross.
Kinross-shire councillor Willie Robertson put forward the motion to Wednesday’s full council meeting, fittingly held in Kinross, which was seconded by Cllr Callum Purves.
Cllr Robertson said: “We are all aware of the pressures faced by housing developments.
“Unfortunately, developers often build the houses and leave the infrastructure as it is, which can cause severe problems.
“We are liable to this here in Kinross with developments and more housing coming to Milnathort. This will bring a huge burden on the small arterial roads, but there is a simple solution.
“[By] upgrading Junction 7 on the M90 from a twoway junction to a four-way junction, we would take away a substantial amount of traffic. This is a very achievable objective and one which is very emotive locally, as a petition signed by over 130 north Kinrossshire residents has been submitted to Roseanna Cunningham MSP.”
SNP leader Cllr Dave Doogan praised the motion and criticised developers who fail to provide adequate infrastructure.
He said: “Anybody who produces substantial developments should ensure there is adequate infrastructure and the current roads are substandard.
“It is clear for anyone to see that developers avoiding this smacks of short-sighted pennypinching.”
Council leader Ian Campbell said was happy to write to the Scottish Government after councillors all agreed to support the motion.
