Kinross high the venue as meeting goes to the people
Provost Dennis Melloy, chief executive Bernadette Malone and council leader Ian Campbell Efforts to bring the council to the people took a step forward this week, with the first of a series of public meetings held outside Perth.
For the first time, councillors met for a full meeting of the local authority in Kinross on Wednesday.
The gathering at the town’s Loch Leven Community Campus followed a pledge by council leader Ian Campbell to make the council meetings more accessible to the general public.
Members of the Kinross-shire public and a number of school children from Kinross High School attended the meeting, which saw a number of Kinross-specific topics hotly debated in the ‘pop-up’ council chamber.
Kinross-shire elected member Willie Robertson said he was delighted the first of these meetings was being held in his council ward, calling it a “significant moment” for Perth and Kinross Council.
He added it is believed it has been more than 50 years since such a meeting has been held in Kinrossshire.
Provost Dennis Melloy started the meeting by saying: “Welcome to our Kinross community here today for the first time outwith 2 High Street. I hope the Kinross residents here today will find this meeting interesting.
“I am also delighted to see young people from Kinross High School to join us here today, you are very welcome folks.”
The sentiment was shared by Cllr Colin Stewart who added: “In addition to [the Provost’s] remarks, I am delighted to see young people from Kinross High here today.”
The next ‘on tour’ meeting will be when the lifelong learning committee goes to Auchterarder on November 1.
