Body of missing Ian found in loch
Pitlochry community stalwart is mourned
Sadness has been expressed in Pitlochry following the death of a Highland Perthshire community stalwart.
On Tuesday night, the body of Ian Rattray (69) was discovered in Loch Faskally after a coordinated search of the River Tummel by police, fire crews and Tayside Mountain Rescue.
Police reported no suspicious circumstances about the death and it would appear Mr Rattray, a keen walker, died in a tragic accident, seeming to have slipped down a muddy bank into the water.
The alarm was raised on Monday, October 2 when he failed to return home.
Mr Rattray was last seen earlier in the day, around 10am, driving in the town’s Atholl Road area and police appealed for information, saying they were becoming “increasingly concerned.”
A Kia Rio belonging to him was group Highland Perthshire Communities Partnership in its bid to get faster broadband for Highland Perthshire.
Latterly he was treasurer before HPCP was wound up.
Mr Rattray and his wife Elizabeth formally lived in Blair Atholl, where he was also treasurer at the golf club.
The couple moved to Pitlochry in the last few years and Mr Rattray was involved with the town’s Heartland FM, as well as Pitlochry Highland Games.
Pitlochry Rotary Club’s president, Richard Dyson, told the Perthshire Advertiser that the popular figure’s death was “terrible news”.
He explained that Mr Rattray had been a long-time Rotary member and past Pitlochry president, but he had resigned two years ago.
Mr Dyson said: “Ian was well respected and quite active, always working for the community.
“My sympathy to his wife, who has done great things through her involvement with the Inner Wheel.” Community stalwart Ian Rattray
