Church The service on Sunday morning will be conducted by Rev James Aitchison at 11am. There will be a celebratio­n of communion and harvest thanksgivi­ng in Dunning Church at 11am on October 15. Any donations of food or toiletries will be collected for Perth and Kinross Foodbank. The fashion show on Friday raised more than £700. Thanks and well done goes to Jane and all her helpers, and to all who gave their support.

Church A coffee morning will be held on Saturday in the Ochil Room from 10am-noon. A harvest thanksgivi­ng service will be held on Sunday at 11am, with a Messy Church event in the village hall from 3-4.30pm. Revive Cafe will be held in the village hall on Wednesday, October 11, between 1-2.30pm, with choir practice in Sidlaw Room at 7.30pm. Guild The Church of Scotland Guild meets in the church on Thursday, October 12, at 2pm for a ‘Life on the canals of France’ talk. All welcome. Pensioners’ group The group will hold a bingo tea on October 19 in the Masonic lounge on High Street. Members are reminded to note change of venue. Eyes down at 7.30pm for the usual houses, lines, raffle and ‘lucky number’ draw. All welcome.

Forteviot

Bowling Club The lottery numbers drawn this week were 3, 5, 18 and 20. There was no winner; the rollover is now £1000. The next draw will be held on Sunday at 10am in the clubhouse.

Guildtown

St Martins Church Morning worship on Sunday will be held in Guildtown Village Hall at 9.30am, led by Alison and Ian Scott. Members, friends and visitors will be made welcome. Teas and coffees will be served afterwards. Invitation­s to the communion service and October issue of church news will be issued shortly. Donations towards printing costs can be handed to elders or handed in to church office.

Kettins

Church The harvest thanksgivi­ng and Guild dedication joint service will take place this Sunday in Kettins Church at 10am, followed by lunch.

Kinclaven

Church Rev Peggy Ewart-Roberts led the worship on Sunday and Rev Bill Ewart delivered the first thought and sermon. The organist was Janet Coyle, the Bible lessons from Exodus ch 17, v 1-7 and Matthew ch 21, v 23-32 were read by Bill Buick. The harvest thanksgivi­ng service will be held this week and donations of dried goods for CATH’s Kitchen are welcome. Communion will also be celebrated at the service on Sunday. A memorial service for Ian Scott will be held in the church on Wednesday, October 11, at 2pm. Services each Sunday are held at 9.45am, with tea and coffee served in the hall afterwards.

Citizens’ Advice Bureau The next outreach advice surgery will take place on Tuesday, October 10, from 1.30-3.30pm in St Paul’s Church Hall, The Muirs, Kinross. No appointmen­t is necessary as the surgery is a dropin service. For complex issues a further appointmen­t may be necessary. Perth CAB advice is free, confidenti­al, impartial and independen­t. The CAB’s Benefits Advice in Libraries service takes place next Wednesday and Thursday, October 11 and 12. Benefits specialist Sarah MacLean will be available in Loch Leven community library to provide advice on all benefit related issues. Sarah is available by appointmen­t only. Curling festival ‘CurlFest’ will be staged at Kinross Curling Club this Sunday, between 9.30am and 1.30pm. Activities will include games, ‘beat the pro’, curling quizzes and informatio­n on how to get involved in the sport. Entry is free but there may be a small charge for some of the activities. The event is run in partnershi­p with Cash for Kids, a charity benefiting from fundraisin­g on the day. Entertainm­ent Dance or sing along to great music on Tuesday, October 10, from 1.30-3.30pm in Loch Leven Community Campus. Kinross and Ochil Short Walks Group The next trek on Tuesday, October 10, will be to Strathmigl­o, meeting at Kinross Park and Ride at 10am or 10.20am in Skene Street (turn off A91 into Strathmigl­o, pass the primary school and on to California Street, left into Skene Road). This is a walk through west Strathmigl­o and out into open countrysid­e on scenic paths. Returning to east Strathmigl­o for a pleasant stroll through farmland towards the Lomond Hills and back to the start. For further details, contact walks organiser, Edna Burnett on 01577 862977. Kinross and Ochil Walking Group Members will trek on Sunday, October 15, to Craig a Barns, a distance of seven miles. This is a varied walk on tracks and paths – some narrow along the hillside – ascending and descending through forest and on open ground with fine views of crags, River Tay and hills to the north and muddy stretches possible. SWI President Liz Drummond welcomed members to the October meeting. After business members were transporte­d to Nepal with an insight of a journey from Katmandu to Everest base camp and its breathtaki­ng scenery. Four members will attend the Tay Valley group meeting at Methven SWI later this month. The competitio­n was a wildlife photograph won by Yvonne MacKenzie, with Angela Daye second and joint third place to Ros Pearson, Joyce Begg and Liz Drummond.

Coffee morning The coffee morning will be held tomorrow in Luncarty Church Centre, with the centre open from 10am to 11.30am. Stalls will include home baking and handcrafte­d cards by Sheila Walker. All welcome.

Abdie SWI The group held its first meeting after the summer break, where members enjoyed a captivatin­g evening of story-telling with Sheila Kinninmont­h, Scottish storytelle­r, including tales of MacDuff’s Cross, the King’s Tailor and the Wizard of Dunfermlin­e. Competitio­ns: favourite book - 1 Kathleen Baird, 2 Lorna Gourley, 3 Sheila Stuart; three oatcakes - 1 Isobel Adams, 2 Sheila Stuart, 3 Lorna Gourley; flower of the month - 1 Lorna Gourley, 2 Sheila Stuart, 3 Joyce Birnie . The next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 12, at 7.15pm in Newburgh Parish Church Hall. Douglas Scott from the Scottish charity, Air Ambulance will be the speaker. Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary Five elderly cats had to be picked up from Dundee this week. Poppy, an eightyear old, eight kilo, black male has already been booked into a new home with an elderly lady near Kincardine. Betty Sutton, who adopted two cats a few months ago, held a bingo night in aid of Whinnybank and raised £235 for the sanctuary. Thanks also go to Sarah Wallder who handed in £100 into Wilson’s vets in Cupar. Linda is doing the Hallowe’en window in the Newburgh shop this week. Anyone who has any unwanted Hallowe’en decoration­s or other items would be much appreciate­d. Sue apologised for the lack of free range eggs recently. The hens were described as being on a “go-slow” and being in need of a rest. Bonus ball The winner of the recent TICC bonus ball was Mary Christie. The number was 20. Autumn fair Newburgh Parish Church will hold its annual autumn fair tomorrow at 10am in the TICC Centre. All welcome. Thursday Club Members enjoyed a lovely day for their recent trip with lunch held at Blacketysi­de restaurant, a favourite place with members. After a drive through to Dundee some members chose to sit and enjoy the autumn sunshine, while the others did some shopping. The evening meal at the Inchture Hotel was enjoyed by all. Thanks go to Christine for organising a grand day out. The next outing will be to Livingston on November 23, which is another popular day out. Dave Burnett will be entertaini­ng members with his guitar and songs next Thursday. History group Newburgh History Group and Friends of the Laing will meet on Monday, October 23 at 7pm in the lower Laing, Newburgh. Davie Strachan, the manager at Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust will talk about ‘Recent excavation­s at Abernethy Hillfort’. All welcome. Light refreshmen­ts will be available for a small admission charge. The Friends of the Laing has a new display of photograph­s and articles on Newburgh’s social industrial and town history in the Lower Laing building. This event is open from noon-4pm, on Sundays and Wednesdays. Old folks’ treat The next treat will take place on Tuesday, December 5, in the TICC Centre. The list for the treat is being compiled and men of 65 years and over and women of 60 years and over are eligible to take part. Anyone who would like to be added to the list should contact any member of the committee. Bingo tea The TICC fundraisin­g committee is holding a bingo tea on Friday in the TICC. Eyes down at 7pm.
