Food giveaway to be extended

-

Charities and community groups in Perth are being encouraged to sign up to a scheme that lets them collect surplus food from a local supermarket.

The food is free and will include fruit and vegetables, bakery products, meat, cheese and ready meals.

Since launching in February 2016 the Tesco initiative, called Community Food Connection, has helped provide 11 million meals to over 5800 charities and community groups across the country.

In Perth 14,487 meals have been donated to local charities.

The company is set to extend the scheme to its convenience stores across Perth.

Store director Karen Doherty said: “We’re so proud to already support local charities and community groups from our larger stores in Perth and to be able to extend that support to our convenience stores is fantastic.

“We are looking forward to forging more strong links with local charities and community groups in Perth and supporting their efforts to help more vulnerable people in our community.”

Charities and community groups can register for the giveaway scheme at www. fareshare.org.uk/ fareshare-foodcloud.
