Is of vital importance

was not present in our geological past.

The letter is inaccurate and misleading in giving the clear impression that the current debate is nearly equally balanced.

In fact, the great majority of relevant scientists now support concepts of man-made climate change.

As noted above, they may be wrong but, as things stand, politicians would be remiss not to heed them.

Most importantly, the letter asserts not only that the concepts of man-made climate change are based on “faulty science” but also that the great number of scientists subscribing to these concepts are in effect dishonest charlatans prostituting their profession.

This is a supremely self-confident assertion by a non-scientist. On what evidence does Mr McMillan rely?

At a more detailed level, Mr McMillan ignores the cautious language of responsible science by exaggerating and making other extreme assertions. For instance, which countries have had their economies “crippled” by climate change counter-measures?

I would suggest that, whatever their current views on climate change, readers should ignore Mr McMillan’s letter as we all continue to think hard about this very important subject. On behalf of Comrie SWI, I wish to thank most sincerely all who attended our Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday, September 30.

As always, it was a well supported occasion and we are very grateful to all who baked, served, donated raffle prizes or cash and helped in any way to raise the sum of £566. Well done Helen Rae
