Years of Highland games service recognised
John Robertson and Jean Swanston from Pitlochry Highland Games are presented with long service awards by chieftain Charles Butter A dedicated husband and wife team in Highland Perthshire have been presented with awards to recognise their hard work with the Highland games.
John Robertson and Jean Swanston were presented with their longservice awards for their years of work with Pitlochry Highland Games and received special certificates from the games’governing body, the Scottish Highland Games Association.
Jean has been a champion Highland dancer since the 1950s and continues to be a noted dance teacher in Highland Perthshire to this day.
She was presented with her award to celebrate her ongoing work as dancing judge at Pitlochry Highland Games.
Her husband John is a former sprints and jumps athlete, and also competed at a number of throwing events at the games.
He was recognised for his years of work as the sports coordinator of the Games – which take place each year on the town’s Recreation Ground.
John says the pair have never missed a Pitlochry Highland Games in all their years, and added he even enjoyed the thrill of the games from his pram in his younger days .
He said:“We have supported Highland games all over Scotland but, particularly here in Pitlochry.
“We were shocked but delighted. But it’s not just for us - it recognises all the people who help at the Highland Games and we hope to carry on supporting the games for a good while yet.”
The couple were presented with their certificates by Charles Butter, chieftain of Pitlochry Highland Games.
