Pupils enjoy cultural exchange to India
A group of Perthshire schoolgirls have just returned from a trip of a lifetime to India.
Eight girls from Kilgraston School in Bridge of Earn, along with one of their teachers and the school chaplain, have just touched down in Scotland after an exchange trip to their sister school Unison World School.
The school in Dehradun, in the foothills of the Himalayas, is an all-girls school and is ranked in the top three schools in the whole country.
The Perthshire girls travelled nearly 5000 miles for the exchange programme, which the school says has helped to promote international understanding, and strengthened the cultural ties between the two schools.
Dorothy MacGinty, Kilgraston’s headmistress, said:“It is a fantastic opportunity for the girls to stay in one of the top schools in India and immerse themselves in the Indian education and culture.
“It is a wonderful occasion for both the students and staff and I am sure they will bring back a great deal to share with the other girls when they return.”When the
The exchange trip was described as a “fantastic opportunity” group arrived in Dehradun, they were welcomed by the Unison World School’s principal Veena Singh.
And the Indian schoolgirls welcomed the visitors with traditional marigold garlands and vermilion, which the visiting delegation said was a beautiful way to start their cultural experience.
The group fully embraced Indian culture during their trip, and got the chance to share Scottish culture by performing dances and songs at the Indian school. This comes as a group of girls from the Indian school visited Kilgraston to learn more about Scottish education and culture earlier this year, as part of the on-going cultural ties between Kilgraston and Unison World School.
