Players believe they deserved more from Gers game

Paul Paton and Graham Dorrans clash late on St Johnstone ................. 0 Rangers ........................ 3 There will be no sense of panic coming out of McDiarmid Park following two 3-0 defeats on the bounce.

That was the message from St Johnstone midfielder David Wotherspoon after Friday’s home disappointment against Rangers.

A double from Carlos Pena and a late Graham Dorrans strike sunk Saints on an evening where Steven Anderson was sent packing.

Tommy Wright’s men struggled to create many clear-cut chances but plenty of pressure was applied before the Perth captain picked up his second booking.

“There is no sense of panic at all and the manager was saying it was one of our best performances,” Wotherspoon said.

“That is football for you, it is a harsh game. The heads are high and we can take some positives from the game and focus on the next one.

“We were very disappointed with the Aberdeen game. We thought that we let ourselves down and the fans who travelled.

“We wanted to get back to McDiarmid to get a result but it was just unfortunate that things did not work out.”

Crafty Stefan Scougall was quick off the mark to carve out space down the right flank for a cross with only three minutes clocked.

But Dorrans was on defensive duty and managed to thwart the danger by booting the ball into touch.

It was more of a promising start for the Perth club compared to their previous outing before the international break.

Rangers did begin to spray the ball around
