Luncarty go top as unbeaten run hits 9

-

Luncarty have moved to the top of the North League - but assistant boss Richie Montgomery won’t be getting carried away.

The Bleachers bagged three points against Lochee Harp on Saturday afternoon to nudge above Dundee Violet in the current standings.

A second-half strike from Dale Smart, signed from Letham amateurs in the summer, was enough to secure a hard-fought 1-0 win.

The Brownlands Park triumph has the feel-good factor peaking as the club toast a nine-game unbeaten run.

Montgomery, also a central midfielder at the club, said: “It’s great to be top but there is a long, long way to go.

“The lads are absolutely buzzing from Saturday. The team spirit and togetherness in the squad is probably the best I’ve seen in all the years I’ve played.

“If I am honest I see three or four teams being up there come the end of the season. We are nine games unbeaten so hopefully we can keep it going.”

Montgomery believes Luncarty can still raise their performance to another level.

He said:“The performance first half was below par but we still created three or four decent chances and should have been up.

“Second half was probably our best half of the season and we created chance after chance and should have been out of sight.

“And we defended very well in the last 10 minutes when they were pushing forward.”
