Strath Marathon entries areopen

-

Entry for the eighth Strathearn Marathon has opened as organisers look forward to hosting another successful event.

The marathon, which will take place in June, is organised by Strathearn Harriers and Comrie DevelopmentTrust.

The race starts and finishes at Cultybraggan Camp, near Comrie, with runners heading from the start line south-west up Glen Artney.

The course then turns to the east and then south on the B827 towards Braco.

A little after the 10-mile mark runners join the A822 north for a short distance before carrying on along a stretch of the Roman road then follow quiet back roads into the southern edges of Crieff.

At the 18.5 mile mark the route turns west along the South Crieff Road to Comrie and returns to Cultybraggan.

Harriers secretary Iain Thomson said:“We’ve opened the entries much earlier this year to try and get more people to sign up and it’s working already.

“We’ve got a limit of 250 entries and we’ve already had about 30 since Friday. We’re using social media a lot more this year and we’re hoping that people who are looking at the much busier London and Stirling marathons try to sign up for ours.

“We got fantastic feedback last year and this is a real highlight in the Strathearn Harriers’calendar.”

Marathon committee member Iain completed the event last year but is looking forward to a behind-thescenes role this time around.

He added:“I’m sticking to the organising this year. I don’t do a lot of road running but it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.”

The Strathearn Marathon will take place on June 10.

Entries, which cost £27 or £25 for Scottish Athletics members, can be submitted via www.entrycentral.com/ Strathearn-Marathon.
