RSPB Loch Leven is throwing a party this weekend to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

This Sunday from 11am to 3pm visitors will be encouraged to sign up to some special activities including:

•Guided history walks starting at 11am, 12pm and 1pm with site manager Uwe Stoneman and RSPB Scotland Loch Leven’s very first teacher warden, Bridget Gray

• Fire lighting and den building sessions in the forest school with learning officer Craig Leitch at 11am and 12pm

• Pond dipping with wildlife explorer group leader Margaret Herriot at 11am and 12pm

• Games and activities for all ages in the picnic area with RSPB teams of past and present at 1pm.

There will also be wildlife spotter sheets and other self-led activities and a giant birthday card where visitors can record their memories.

To wrap up the afternoon visitors will be invited to visit the marquee at 2 pm to hear stories from people who have shaped the reserve, followed by birthday cake and a raffle.

Speakers will include the first warden of the reserve, Jack Swan, local historian David Munro and RSPB Scotland regional director Martin Auld.

This weekend is also the last chance to see the anniversary timeline exhibition in the visitor centre. Visitors do not need to pre-book any of the activities but spaces are limited so early arrival is recommended. Pink-footed geese fly into RSPB Loch Leven
