Church A joint service will be held in Aberuthven Church this Sunday, October 29 at 11am. Tea and coffee will be served after the service. All welcome. Auld Abernethy The next meeting of associatio­n will take place in the Museum of Abernethy on Wednesday, November 1 at 7.30pm. The speaker will be Dave Dykes and his talk will be entitled ‘Flowers of the forest’, all welcome. Horticultu­ral Society The next meeting of the society will take place on Wednesday, November 8 at 7.30pm. Herbalist Leila Mayne will speak to the group on the importance of herbs in medicine. The meeting will be held as usual at the masons’ hall on Main Street, Abernethy. Entrance costs £2.50, inclusive of refreshmen­ts, free to members. Bowling club The club will be holding its annual general meeting in the clubhouse on November 25 at 7pm.

Almondbank

Church St Serf’s Church service on Sunday was conducted by Mr Michael Archibald and his sermon was based on ‘Who Am I?’. Carol Duff read the lessons, Alison Hooper played the organ and also kindly gifted the flowers. The joint communion service this Sunday will be conducted by the Rev Donald Campbell at the usual time of 11.30am. This will be followed by an evening communion service at 6.30pm, where all will be made welcome.

Alyth

Parish Church Morning worship on Sunday, was conducted by Rev Mike Erskine. This week, the service will take place at the usual time of 11am, all welcome. During term-time the Sunday school welcomes children to the front pews of the church. A creche for under-threes is available during the service. The prayer group meets on Thursdays in Burnside Court lounge at 10.30am. Choir rehearsal is every Friday at 6.45pm, new members welcome. The church website www.alythparis­hchurch.org.uk is updated weekly and contains details of the Family History project, kirk news, and lots of photos. All events and services are open to all. Family history Alyth Family History project is open at Alyth Parish Church on Sundays from 2pm to 4pm. The archive includes thousands of photograph­s of people, events, schools, businesses, weddings, children, views, etc. Admission is free. Genealogy enquiries are welcome via fhp@alythparis­hchurch.org.uk or Facebook. Pipe band Alyth and District Pipe Band practise on Wednesdays from 6pm, in Alyth town hall. Held in Fort William, Mod Lochaber was the scene of the choir’s latest success, where it lifted the Stafffinde­rs Quaich after taking part in one of the main choral competitio­ns, the Margrat Duncan Memorial Trophy.

Balbeggie

Animal welfare An animal welfare sale is being held on Friday, November 3, from 10am to 4pm in St Martin’s public hall, Balbeggie. Items for sale include Christmas gifts, brica-brac, books, CDs, toys, jewellery and plants, as well as a tombola and raffle. The Brownies will also have a stall. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available on the day.

Bankfoot

Church The communion service this Sunday, October 29 at 11.15am in Bankfoot Church will be conducted by the Rev Adrian Lough. Fayre A craft fayre will take place on November 4 at Bankfoot Church centre. There will be 46 craft stalls selling a wide variety of quality items with something for everyone. Attraction­s will include a packed Christmas hamper to win; prize raffle with items from crafters and cake and candy stall. Music will be provided by Strings and Things from 11am to 1pm with snacks and light lunches and free parking. Doors open at 11am to 3pm. All are welcome. Guild The Guild will next meet in Bankfoot Church Centre on the afternoon of Thursday, November 2 at 2.30pm. The speaker Sandy Scrimgeour will talk on his subject of ‘Street pastors’. Everyone is welcome.

Church The service on Sunday in Bendochy Church was led by Rev Andrew Graham, where the sacrament of communion was celebrated. Bible readings were taken from Psalm 80715 and Matthew chapter 21, verses 33-46. See the Coupar Angus section for further details.

Burrelton

Church Morning worship on Sunday was led by the Rev Stevie Thomson with Lynne Mitchell as organist. Office bearers on duty were John Baxter, Jean MacDiarmid and Sheena McNaughton. Flowers were provided by Pauline MacAskill and refreshmen­ts were served by Ailsa Freya and Graham Mitchell. The Harvest thanksgivi­ng service will be celebrated this Sunday. It will be followed by a soup lunch and cake stall from 11am to 1pm. Proceeds will go to Mary’s Meals. Communion will be celebrated during morning worship on Sunday, November 19. Guild Marjorie Clark gave members an enlighteni­ng presentati­on on the work of Christian Aid in Bolivia, followed by a discussion and a vote of thanks by Moira Ormiston. Devotions were led by Moira Ormiston who also accompanie­d praise. Tea hostess was Edith Walters. Their next meeting will be held at 7pm in the church halls, Woodside, on Thursday, November 2. Caroline McKay will speak on emotional freedom techniques, all welcome. The harvest supper is tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm in the church halls, featuring live music with Tommy Newcomen. May Brown, musical director of the Aberfeldy Gaelic Choir, said,“I was delighted with the choir’s performanc­e and that their hard work and efforts were rewarded.

“This was a great outcome to the final competitio­n taking place in our special year.” Craft fair The Christmas craft fair will be held in Bridge of Cally Hall from 10am to 12.30pm on November 18. There will be Christmas crafts, cards, treats and other stalls. Activities will also include a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ competitio­n, Christmas tombola and raffle. Entry is £2.50 for adults, with children free. The fee includes teas, coffees and mince pies. Tea@Two This group supports carers and older people in the community. Abbey Church The service in Abbey Church on Sunday, was conducted by Rev Andrew Graham. The hymns were Praise the Lord, ye servants of the Lord, Jesus hands were kind hands, The church is wherever God’s people are praising, O for a thousand tongues. The readings were taken from Exodus chapter 33, verses 12-23 and One Thessaloni­ans chapter one, verses 1-10 and were read by Rev Graham. Musical offerings were provided by organist Austin Wilkie and included Diapason Movement in D Major, by John Bennett, Somewhere My Love, from Dr Zhivago – requested by Kathleen Pirie of the congregati­on – and Recessiona­l Voluntary in C, by T Pattison. In his sermon, Rev Graham spoke on the theme of how the presence of God is always with us. We can do the same, we can outstretch our hand to others and be the one who is there for others just as God is there for us. Copying someone else might not seem appealing or perhaps even insulting, but if we copy Jesus and live our lives as best we can the way that he did, then we will have life in all its fullness. Prayer group and Bible study resumes on Wednesdays, at 2pm and 7.15pm respective­ly. Communion will be held at the Abbey Church on Sunday. The next friendly Friday coffee is on Friday, November 3, from 1.30pm to 3pm. The prayer group will meet on Wednesdays at 2pm in the Abbey and all are welcome to come along. The Bible study resumes on Wednesdays at 7.15pm in the Abbey, studying Luke chapter 7 and all are welcome to come along. The next Friendly Friday will take place on Friday, November 3, from 1.30pm to 3pm, where everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy tea, coffee and tasty bites among friends. The sacrament of communion will be celebrated in the Abbey on Sunday, at 11.15am. The Session will meet prior to worship at 11am. There will be a retiring offering in aid of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance. All are warmly invited to the Lord’s table to share in communion. A silent auction will be held in the Red House Hotel on Friday, November 24, at 7pm. This is to help raise funds towards the cost of installing a new heating system in the Abbey. A letter was received from the Perth and Kinross Foodbank expressing thanks for the food parcels donated by the Abbey at the Harvest thanksgivi­ng service.
