Danny’s aiming to wow the crowd at Ice Factory

-

A balloon comedian will be getting himself in a twist tomorrow when he brings Balloonatics to Perth.

The comedy show blew up at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2016, sold out its run in 2017 and picked up a nomination for the Children’s Event Award in Australia.

Balloonatics - at The Venue in St John Street at 1.30pm - promises chaos, silliness, plenty of jokes and a whole lot of balloons.

The fun-packed hour of inflatable buffoonery will see, award-nominated Scottish comedian Chris Henry brings Tommy Cooper-style comedy into the 21st century and invites children to join his army of ‘Balloonatics’

Creator, Chris Henry said: “I was inspired by my brother’s family to create a show for kids that wasn’t painful for adults to watch too.

“That’s when I decided to blend my minimal balloon-modelling skills, with what I am good at - making people laugh.”

Tickets are £8 for adults and £6 for kids and can be purchased from Bookitbee.

The show involves a lot of noisy sound-effects and popping balloons, so may not be suitable for anyone under five years old. Superstar DJ Danny Howard is excited to be coming back to Perth next month ... writes Ross Gardiner.

The BBC Radio One star is bringing his ‘Off the Beaten Track’ tour to Perth’s Ice Factory on Saturday, November 25.

Having played at the Fair City nightclub last year, Danny is looking forward to bringing a full-scale tour to more intimate venues.

He said: “I don’t know if Perth is ready for this! It’s going to be amazing.

“I love coming to Perth and the Ice Factory is a brilliant club.

“It’s a big venue with an intimate feel, which is great. There’s always a great crowd and people travel from all over to get there.

“When we were putting together the tour, I had to come to Perth again. Because of where the DJ box is, you get a huge connection with the crowd.

“This tour is about going back to my roots and playing in the size of venues where I started.

“There’s some incredible talent coming around the country with me. It’s all about the freedom to play and enjoy it.”

The tour, which only stops in Perth and Aberdeen north of the border, will see Danny offer an opportunity for emerging talent to perform at each of the venues through BBC Music Introducing, an opportunity the DJ admits he never had when he was breaking through.

He added: “When I first started DJing, I managed to get a gig in my student union while I was at university - after I got my friends to tell the owner how great my first night was, I was invited to play there regularly!

“From there, I played anywhere I could and I was fortunate enough to start playing at festivals across the country and in Ibiza before I started on the radio.

“I’ve just been given the Friday Prime Time slot on Radio One, which is a dream

From the selection of BBC Music Introducing stars Danny is touring Chris Henry of Balloonatics with, he is bringing Model to Perth as his support.

Ice Factory owner Mike Jordan is delighted to have Danny back in Perth.

He said: “When I took over Ice Factory last year, Danny was one of the first acts I booked, and he asked to come back, so we’re looking forward to it.”

Tickets cost £6 and are available at www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Perth/TheIce-Factory. Over 18s only.
