Momentum builds ahead of dance event
Perthshire residents have been remineded of an immersive dance theatre experience coming to Rait Hall next month courtesy of locally-raised dancer and choreographer, Jen Wren.
The dance company Slanjayvah Danza will be presenting ‘Six Feet, Three Shoes’, a celebration of friendship, Spanish/Scottish cultural exchange and history through dance, music and storytelling.
Jen grew up in rural Perthshire. A former team member of the Tay Valley Rollers and Scottish Squad for roller skating, Jen started dancing in Dundee with the youth company at Dundee Rep.
She has always been interested in storytelling, often drawing upon centuries of Scottish folklore for inspiration to use in her work.
“I’m so happy to be showing this work in my home area,” she commented.
“Get ready for some fierce percussive dance, traditional foot stomping music, tender moments and a giggle.
“We have developed this piece, funded by Arts Council England North, with the support of the Scottish Storytelling Centre, Dancebase and the Traditional Dance Forum of Scotland as well as award-winning folk musicians including Cormac Byrne who, along with the band, has really helped bring this piece to life.
“We entertain through dance, music and storytelling, but it’s also an opportunity to get up yourself and join in as we transition the evening into a cèildih/feria style party for all.”
The toe-tapping tale is of three friends, how they meet and learn a way to communicate, based on a real life story which resonates across generations and cultures. It comes to Annat Hall, Rait, on November 25, at 7.30pm.Cèilidh tickets at www. slanjayvahdanza.com/6f3s Dancing boots on Six Feet Three Shoes is a dance event by Slanjayvah Danza
