Luncarty poised to make a huge impact

Bleachers back to create more special memories

- Matthew Gallagher

Memories of last year’s Scottish Junior Cup still sit at the forefront of Luncarty minds.

But assistant boss Richie Montogmery insists the Bleachers are out to create more special moments in the competition this time round.

The Brownlands Park men reached the last 16 before being edged out by Ayrshire giants Auchinleck Talbot.

This weekend a second round trip to take on Central District side Vale of Leven is on the cards.

“Last year was an amazing experience for everyone involved at the club,” Montgomery told the Perthshire Advertiser.

“It was the first time in a long, long time that Luncarty made the last 16. If we manage to get to that stage again, it would be some achievement.

“We don’t know too much about Vale of Leven, but anytime you head down that way to play, it’s always a tough game.

“I really don’t expect any different on Saturday. We go there on a decent run of form and hopefully we will get a result.

“As long as we work hard and apply ourselves in the correct manner, then we will give most teams problems.”

Montgomery hopes Luncarty, who sit top of the North League, can take their positive momentum into the cup tomorrow.

“There is a good buzz about the place this week with the Scottish coming up,” he said. “It’s a break from the league which is good.

“Scottish Cup days always have a different feel about them and this is one the boys are really looking forward to.

“We’re going in the right direction as a club and the mood in the camp is great.

“We need to keep the lads focused and take each game as it comes - and not look too far ahead.”

Player/boss Jon Kelly and midfielder Steve McAllister return to Luncarty’s squad for the game.

Coupar Angus manager Logan McConachie has been forced to search for a goalkeeper ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Junior Cup test.

Foxhall stopper Josh Allardyce is suspended for the away trip to Montrose Roselea following his red card in last week’s derby with Blairgowrie.

“We’ve been in the transfer market this week as our goalkeeper Josh Allardyce is unfortunately banned for this week,” McConachie said.

“So we’ll be announcing a new goalkeeper, and a few other players are expected to join the fold.”

McConachie has received the required information on opponents Montrose, who now play their football in the North Region’s Super League.

He said: “The Super League side are well known for playing good attacking football and we’ve managed to get a couple of reports on them.

“We’re hoping to give a good account of ourselves, as we’ve had a good few performances in recent weeks but not taken full advantage of our chances.”

Scone Thistle hit the road for Scottish Junior Cup action planning to build on their strong league form.

The Jags, who could be missing Craig Mitchell and Willie Laing, face off against East Region South League side West Calder United.

“I expect it to be a very hard game, but I don’t know a lot about them,” said Scone manager Derek Lawson.

“I’m very pleased with how we have been playing, scoring goals and keeping clean sheets.

“Hopefully we can keep up the top of the table towards the end of the season.”

Elsewhere in the Scottish Junior Cup, Kinnoull will be out for revenge away at Glasgow Perthshire.

The teams met at the same stage of the competition last year with the Tulloch Park squad suffering a 2-1 defeat.

Blairgowrie complete the local lineup and travel to play North Region Super League side Hermes.
