Callum in limbo over Scotland role

-

Tommy Wright says St Johnstone have been left in‘total limbo’as to whether Callum Davidson is still on the Scotland coaching team.

The Perth assistant manager joined the national set-up back in May when Gordon Strachan was at the helm.

Now Scottish FA performance director Malky Mackay will take interim charge of Scotland for a friendly with Holland on November 9.

And Saints boss Wright said: “We are in total limbo about Callum, which I find incredible.

“Malky hasn’t been in touch and neither has anyone from the SFA, so as it stands he’s thinking he won’t be involved.

“I don’t see why nobody has made a courtesy call to tell him either yes, we want you to continue, or no - I’m bringing my own staff in.

“To just leave it the way it has been shows a real lack of professionalism.

“At this late stage, it obviously looks like they don’t want him there.

“I know Callum has put calls in but he’s heard nothing back.

“I don’t think that’s fair on him because he’s gone in there to help out and did a great job.

“If you don’t want him then the easiest thing is to pick up the phone and tell him that.

“It’s not something I would expect from someone even if it is just on an interim basis they’ve got the job.

“From our point of view, we need to know because even my chairman has been asking whether he’ll be going away or not.

“We are planning our training schedule for the international week so I need to know if a member of my staff is going to be here or not.”

Meanwhile, Saints make the trip to Firhill this weekend to face a Partick Thistle side who sit bottom of the Premiership.

“Michael O’Halloran took a bit of a knock so that’s why he came off on Tuesday” Wright said.

“It wasn’t the injury from before, it was the same ankle but

it was different.

“He thinks he might be okay for the weekend so the physio is assessing him and we’ll see where we are.

“Liam Gordon is fine again after his injury and so is Richard Foster.

“If Liam had been fit the other night he would have played but Steven Anderson came back in and played brilliantly, so he’s earned the right to stay in now.

“It’s the same for Richard and Aaron Comrie.”

Wright added:“Alan Archibald has had injuries but they will take a lot of confidence from the last two results.

“Firhill has been decent for us over the last few years so we’re looking forward to it.

“I believe we can go there and win, we have played Partick twice this season and they were two completely different matches.

“We need to impose ourselves on them and try to be better in the final third of the pitch.”
