Dragon returns for annual Blast in the Park

-

The fire-breathing dragon in Coupar Angus Thousands are expected to gather in Coupar Angus on Friday night for the annual Blast in the Park fireworks display in Larghan Park.

And organisers are promising another spectacular show in what is their 12th year in the east Perthshire town.

As well as the firework display, there will be a bonfire and the popular fire-breathing dragon will be back as well as other attractions such as the fun fair.

A range of hot food and drinks will also be available, including soup.

The fireworks are engineered by the awardwinning Blast Design, run by former Coupar Angus man John Kettles.

He said: “It is a community event for the town and we are hoping for a great turnout.

“It has just gone from strength to strength and is a great family event – it is always fantastic to see all the parents out with their children and everyone enjoying themselves.”

Wendy McCombes is chair of Coupar Angus and Bendochy Community Council, which helps run the popular event.

She said: “This is generally agreed to be the best bonfire and fireworks displays around.

“People come from all over to see it and many people even make the trip to Coupar Angus from Dundee for this event!

“The park setting gives it all a very cosy and rural feel and the darkness of our skies lends itself to the fabulous fireworks display.

“This year we are particularly grateful to the organisers who have also donated a young monkey puzzle tree to Larghan Park as a memorial to Harlow Edwards who lived very close to the park.”

The entertainment starts at 7pm.

Entry to the event is free but donations on the night - which will be donated to local charities - would be very much appreciated.
