But the 27-year-old midfielder is determined for the goal drought to come to a stunning end as Scottish champions Celtic prepare to visit.

Saints were downed 1-0 by Partick Thistle at the weekend to conjure up the unwanted stat of going seven hours without having a name on the scoresheet.

Wotherspoon insists McDiarmid Park players are working hard to turn fortunes ahead of Saturday and said: “It’s very frustrating.

“The fans will see that we are giving our all and are putting the effort in week in, week out.

“Good performances don’t necessarily mean a good result and we know that is disappointing.

“It would be great to break this run against Celtic. We know as well as anyone that we can give them a game.

“We have done in the past and I feel that at McDiarmid Park we will give them a hard game.

“We gave Celtic a really good game earlier in the season. Obviously we know it will be tough but the boys will be ready for it come Saturday.

“We’ve played everyone now and we know that we can get a result. Hopefully we can get that goal and maybe even get that win.”

Wotherspoon has watched Saints recover after enduring similar runs of results in recent years.

“We’ve been through runs like this before and the boys are already waiting for the next game,” he said.

“We are all together and are all wanting the best for this club. We’re working hard as always and really want that result.

“We’ve kept a lot of faces over the past few years and we know what it is like to

be in this situation. We’ll be looking to bounce back. It’s a couple of hard games we have now but these are the type of games we like to play well in.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s defeat against Partick, Wotherspoon believes the Perth performance was a positive one. He told the Perthshire Advertiser: “It was a disappointing result but a good performance.

“I thought we dominated from start to finish and that conceding a slack goal cost us the game.

“It’s not like we are not playing well. Even leading up to the goal we felt like we were passing the ball well and creating chances.

“It’s not falling for us at the moment and we’re unfortunate, again, to lose another game.

“In the first half on Saturday, I’ve had a good chance and so has Murray Davidson. And then there were others in the second half.

“We feel like we could be testing the goalkeeper a bit more but at the moment it isn’t happening.

“We are working hard and the boys are sticking together as we push on to the next game.”

Meanwhile, Saints’scheduled Scottish Premiership away match with Motherwell on Saturday, November 25, has been moved to Tuesday, February 6. Kick-off is 7.45pm. But Wright remains confident
