Unpaid work for contact with his ex

- Court Reporter

A Perth man flipped when he was arrested for flouting a bail order banning him from contacting his ex-girlfriend.

And when -year-old 20-year-old Cameron Stephen was put in the rear of a police car, he totally lost control.

“He repeatedly punched, kicked and head-butted the window of the rear passenger’s door, causing significant damage to the metal window frame,” explained depute fiscal Clare Kennedy.

“The door could no longer close properly and the cost of the repair was put at £1000.”

Stephen, c/o County Place, escaped a jail term when he appeared for sentence at Perth Sheriff Court.

Instead he will have to complete a total of 230 hours of unpaid work within the next nine months.

The accused, who is already under supervision until 2018 as part of another Community Payback Order, admitted flouting an August 19 bail condition banning him from approaching or getting in touch with his former partner.

The court heard he was spotted by police in Glover Street shortly before noon on September 17 but when he saw the marked police car he walked away from her house.

He was described as “agitated”and when inside the police vehicle he punched, kicked and struck it with his head.

Solicitor Billy Somerville said his client had“bumped into”his ex-girlfriend and asked for the return of some of his belongings.

“He wasn’t actually in the property,”explained the lawyer.

The previous Community Payback Order hadn’t gone well as the accused was homeless at the time and had been“couch surfing.”

He had now applied for his own tenancy.
