McDiarmid men’s goal drought now at six games

- Matthew Gallagher

Paul Paton and Scott Brown compete for the ball in the middle of the park St Johnstone ................. 0 Celtic ............................ 4 Sometimes you just need to hold your hands up and say you were beaten by the better team.

That was the message from goalkeeper Zander Clark after Celtic brushed aside St Johnstone to continue an unbeaten domestic run which now sits at 63 games.

For Saints, their run of failing to find the net has now stretched to six games as action halts for the international break.

A Scott Sinclair strike separated the teams at the interval on Saturday before a further three goals in the final 20 minutes killed off any home hopes of an upset.

Moussa Dembele’s neat finish, an own goal from Steven Anderson and a closing hit from substitute Olivier Ntcham did the damage at McDiarmid Park.

Perth stopper Clark was helpless to prevent any of the four goals and he said: “In the second half Celtic turned it up a notch and it becomes very hard when their passing and movement is so fluent.

“It can be hard to get close to them. There are always two or three moving into space.

“Their confidence is high with the run they are on and they have been doing well in the Champions League.

“These sort of games will not define our season so it is a case of taking it on the chin and moving on.

“We know within ourselves that we are capable of scoring goals. But just now it is one of those where things are not falling for us. Hopefully with the break we will be able to recharge the batteries and come back and start banging in the goals.”

Clark needed to be alert in the 15th
