Zander’s backing boss to stay put

-

Zander Clark St Johnstone goalkeeper Zander Clark hopes boss Tommy Wright remains a Saint for the foreseeable future.

The Perth manager’s name was linked with the vacant position at Dundee United over the weekend.

But Wright, speaking after Saturday’s defeat against Celtic, insisted he knew nothing about any potential interest.

He said:“Since I won the cup (in 2014) I’ve been linked with other clubs. I’m still here.

“I was told last night I had come in on the betting but it’s all news to me. There is absolutely nothing in it.”

Stopper Clark is hoping Saints can continue the success story of previous seasons with Wright at the helm.

“The gaffer has been great,” said Clark.“I’m surprised, and a lot of people will say they are surprised, that he has not had a move in the last couple years.

“We are still going well in the league with the start that we had, despite being on a bad run just now.

“We obviously want him to stay and continue to be the way we have been.

“You could maybe say we are

victims of our own success. Everybody expects you to put in performances where you are winning games comfortably week in, week out.

“You are not going to get that in this league.

“But it shows you the type of boys we have in the dressing room – we always manage to be up there.

“That comes down to how we prepare. I’m sure we’ll come back in and get going again.”
