Up for the challenge on Far East adventure
Fundraising drive on
Pupils will travel to Myanmar in 2019 A Perth secondary school is fundraising for a trip of a lifetime to South East Asia.
Perth Academy has ran World Challenge trips every two years for over a decade.
It is open to all S4 and 5 pupils, with participants asked to plan and raising cash for the excursion in the two years leading up to their departure.
Pupils decide on the itinerary, control the budget, decide on accommodation and transport and are in charge once in the country.
Organisers say this gives the pupils an amazing opportunity to develop a huge range of skills from organisational and interpersonal skills, independence, confidence, teamwork and leadership skills.
During the build-up, the pupils will train with World Challenge representatives to prepare themselves for the epic journey, which this year will see pupils travel to Myanmar.
The expedition costs approximately £4500 and the pupils are encouraged to take ownership of achieving this target.
The pupils are supported in a number of activities from sponsored events, bag packing, part time jobs and hosting events. They also do various fundraising projects as a main group, individually and in small ‘break away’ groups.
The Perth Academy World Challenge team is holding its first group fundraising event, a ladies night, on November 24 at the school.
There will be over 24 stall holders at the night selling everything from jewellery, gin, art, crafts, gifts, candles, home furnishings, plus cards, to decorations, skincare, aromatherapy and clothing to kickstart the funds.
Tickets priced £7 which includes wine and a finger buffet are available from either through ehenry@pkc.gov.uk or by phoning 07590478222.
