Limited edition Oor Wullie print and high-end timepiece

- Staff Reporter

A well-known Perth jewellery business has come up with a ‘timely’ donation to the Silent Auction.

St John Street family firm TB Mitchell has been a long-time supporter of the annual charity fundraiser.

And this year they are offering a limited edition luxury watch with a price tag in the region of £1700.

The stylish Ladies Raymond Weil Toccata Special Edition is limited to just 500 and was crafted to honour Scots musician Nicola Benedetti.

The classical violinist and Raymond Weil ambassador launched the suitably elegant Swiss quartz movement timepiece at an event held at the Savoy in London.

It has rose gold case, a chocolate brown satin strap and boasts 80 diamonds and a further 11 on the face.

Rotary Club of Perth president David Lindsay, Silent Auction coordinator, said: “This is another fabulous donation from TB Mitchell, who have been so generous with their support for many years.”

The eye-catching watch will be displayed in the shop window to help promote the Silent Auction and allow potential bidders an Nicola Sturgeon with Morris Heggie and Peter Davidson

opportunity to view it at close quarters.

Meanwhile, the legendary Oor Wullie has thrown his weight behind the Perth Silent Auction.

With lots coming in thick and fast from near and far, The Archie Foundation has secured a limited edition framed print signed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

The fabulous print features the iconic Oor Wullie perched on his customary bucket receiving a Christmas present left in the snow by the First Minister, who is seen peeking out from behind his shed.

And his reaction? It just had to be: “Help ma Boab!”

It is highly-collectable as Ms Sturgeon signed just five of the festive prints of her Christmas card.

Created by Peter Davidson and Morris Heggie, it marked the 80th anniversary of the nation’s favourite scallywag.

Mr Lindsay said: “This is very special because everyone loves Oor Wullie, surely the most famous resident of Auchenshoogle, and the First Minister signed only a handful. It is sure to attract a lot of interest.”

Ms Sturgeon has hailed Oor Wullie as a “much-loved national treasure, adored by children and adults across Scotland.”

She said charities selected to benefit from the special card, such as the Archie’s Foundation, were a reminder of valuable charitable work which continued in Scotland throughout the year.

Since 2006, the area’s favourite fundraiser – a joint venture between the Perthshire Advertiser and the Rotary Club of Perth – has generated more than £270,000 for good causes at home and abroad.

This year, the major beneficiaries will be the Cornhill Macmillan Centre at Perth Royal Infirmary, Kinfauns Stables Riding for the Disabled and The Archie Foundation Tayside Appeal.

This year’s Perth Silent Auction finishes on Saturday, December 2.

As in past years the lots will be sold at one minute intervals throughout the day. Selling will commence at 10am.
