Perth teams all up for the cup after draw

-

The three remaining Perthshire teams in the Scottish Junior Cup learned who they will face in the third round this week.

Super League side Jeanfield Swifts were pulled out of the pot with Tranent of the East Region’s East Premier League.

Riverside boss Ross Gunnion knows his Perth players will have their work cut out and insists he will not be taking the away tie lightly.

He said:“I think it’s a very tough tie, especially away from home.

“Tranent have been on the up for a few seasons now and have established themselves as a strong Premier League team.

“We played them a couple of seasons ago at home and scraped through 3-2.

“Since then they have strengthened and improved and I know that their manager is focused on turning them into a Super League team.

“They have quality in their squad and I’m sure they will do their homework on us.

“We’ll look to get reports done on them over the next few weeks and when the time comes we’ll prepare accordingly.”

Also hitting the road will be Coupar Angus, who will face the winners of the second round clash between Arthurlie and Lesmahagow. Foxhall manager Logan McConachie was upbeat about the prospect of another away fixture in the prestigious competition.

He said:“Both Arthurlie and Lesmahagow will be tough opponents and I know that, in the west, clubs generally see the Scottish Junior Cup as the highlight of the season.

“We’ve done well on the road in the cups so far so hopefully we can head back up the road with smiles on our faces again.”

Scone Thistle will be going for glory at Farquharson Park after being matched up with Kilsyth Rangers.

“It will be a very hard game,”said Scone boss Derek Lawson.

“Having a home tie gives us a small advantage of progressing. We try to win every game we play but the league is our priority.”

Ties will be played on Saturday, November 25.
